Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi will formally inaugurate the Government Medical College in Tiruvarur on July 27, said U.Mathivanan, Dairy Development Minister, here on Sunday.

The Minister inspected the venue for the meeting near the medical college complex. He said that the first admission card will be given to a student at the function. Tiruvarur Medical College, Villupuram and Dharmapuri Medical Colleges were included in the second counselling for the medical admissions on July 18.

Meanwhile, the letter of permission has come from the Medical Council of India for starting the college this year. Classes will begin on August 1. The State government has allotted Rs.100 crores for establishing the college. Hundred students will be admitted to the college. Already an outpatient ward, a 300-bedded hospital are functioning in the Medical college complex near the Collectorate.

Faculty buildings, lecture halls, laboratory buildings and hostel buildings have been completed.

Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin is also participating in the function. It may be recalled that last year a Central University was inaugurated at Tiruvarur. Kabil Sibal, Union Minister for Human Resource Development inaugurated the University in the presence of Mr.Karunanidhi.

The Chief Minister will also inaugurate the district party office building at Thanjavur and proceed to Tiruvarur to inaugurate the Government Medical College. He is scheduled to address a public meeting at Thanjavur in the evening.
