T. Udayachandran, Secretary, Finance (Expenditure), who is the Monitoring Officer for the Karur district, on Saturday directed the officials to carry out inspection and hold review meetings on daily basis to ensure drinking water supply to the residents during summer.
Mr. Udayachandran was on a day’s visit to Karur to review the implementation of projects to mitigate drinking water shortage.
Mr. Udayachandran told the meeting that Rs. 50 lakh had been allocated to carry out drinking water projects aimed at easing the drinking water shortage in summer.
While some of the components of the scheme had been completed and some others were yet to be completed. Since dry weather was likely to intensify in the coming days, there was an urgent need to speed up the works. Hence, it was important for officials to take steps to complete the works as quickly as possible. It would enable the people to get adequate drinking water supply during summer. Stating that water scarcity had been reported in a few parts of Karur municipality, particularly Thanthoni, he said the officials should visit each and every part of the municipality to check the supply of drinking water as per schedule. If problems existed, officials should take steps to solve them.
Mr. Udayachandran added that equal importance should be given to the town panchayat, panchayat unions, and village panchayat areas also. Besides using the drought relief fund, all other available options should be explored to ensure the supply of drinking water.
