Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the college has come up after a lot of struggle and hard work by the Government. Students should understand its value and utilise it properly and come up in life. M.Chandrasekaran appealed to the students to understand the rare opportunity they have got to study in the college and also their responsibility to the society. Because of the efforts taken by the state Government, three new Government Medical colleges have come up at Tiruvarur, Villupuram and Dharampuri and additional 300 students could have medical education this year. Students should concentrate on their studies. They should also involve themselves in co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Government has provided excellent facilities to students. It is for them to utilise them properly. The collector said that 75 students have joined the college and another 15 will join after second counselling. Students from various districts of Tamil Nadu have joined the college.

It may be recalled that the college was inaugurated by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at a function held near the college at Tiruvarur on July 27. He gave the first admission card to a student on the occasion. The college is fully functioning now with an outpatient ward, 300 bedded hospital, faculty building and lecture halls, blood bank, laboratories, boys and girls hostels for both Medical and Nursing students.
