Youngsters should preserve environment and work towards creating a world where nature and man could coexist in harmony, said Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Commissioner of Police, Tiruchi, while addressing schoolchildren here on Sunday.
Mr.Yadav was speaking at the grand finale of ‘Creativ Draw’, the first district-level drawing competition for schoolchildren organised by Rotary Club of Tiruchi Diamond City in association with Rotary Club of Tiruchi Shakthi at St.John’s Vestry Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School.
Captivating sketches on preserving nature, preventing deforestation, and use of solar and wind energy, showcased children’s skill and creativity.
A total of 10,750 students from 55 schools, including rural and government schools in the district, participated . September is being observed as youth development month by rotary club, and M.A.Mohamed Taj is the chairman of the project ‘Creativ Draw’.
S.Gopal, governor, Rotary District 3000, guest of honour, said: Children will learn that winning isn’t everything; it is participation and effort that count. Such competitions help them stay alert.The competition was conducted under three categories with three individual prizes each. Category A involved colouring pre-drawn chart for children between class I and III, category B on ‘renewable energy’ for class IV to VI, and category C on ‘save earth’ for class VII to IX. All the participants were awarded participation certificates and schools with maximum number of entries were given rolling shields.
Mr.Yadav distributed the prizes to winners. B.Sreeni, a class III student of Care International, bagged the first prize in category A, P.Rethanyaa of Mount Litera Zee School won the top spot in category B, while S.R.Ananya of class VIII of Care International walked away with the first prize in category C.
R.Subramani, president, Rotary Club of Tiruchi Diamond City, and Savithiri Sivakumar, president, Rotary Club of Tiruchi Shakthi, were present, along with parents, teachers, and children.
