Chemmozhi Express from today

The temple town of Mannargudi would be linked to Coimbatore with the operation of Mannargudi-Coimbatore Chemmozhi Express from Mannargudi on Tuesday.

The daily train that would leave Mannargudi at 8.10 p.m., would reach Coimbatore at 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

The train would go via Needamangalam, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Karur, Erode, Tirupur, and Coimbatore north.

On the downward journey, the train would leave Coimbatore at 11.55 p.m. and reach Mannargudi at 7.55 a.m. the next day.

T.R.Baalu, DMK MP and Chairman of Parliament Standing Committee for Railways, told presspersons on Monday at Mannargudi that a new broad gauge line between Mannargudi and Pattukottai would be laid at a cost of Rs. 388 crore.

Land acquisition would be done in 10 villages in Mannargudi taluk and 14 villages in Pattukottai taluk in neighbouring Thanjavur.

District administrations have taken steps to acquire 215 acres of land for the project. Bridges in this stretch would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 27 crore.

Out of these bridges, work has begun at the Baminiyar river at a cost of Rs. 7 crore and load testing is under progress using sand bags. He also said that a road over-bridge would be constructed at Needamangalam along with a sub-way at the level-crossing near the railway station.
