By appointing a certified coach, the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) has brought professional training to the door steps of youngsters in Tiruchi district.

K. R. Madhukar Kumar, who has over two decades of experience, will impart training through MART (MARG Academy of Rural Tennis) at Union Club here. The academy, an initiative of TNTA with MARG Limited as the sponsor, aims at providing quality training in Tiruchi to the tennis players aspiring to play in higher circuits.

“We believe that the move will help unearth talent in the district. The initiative has become a reality through the sponsorship provided by MARG and support of Tiruchi District Tennis Association (TDTA),” TNTA vice-president Karthi P. Chidambaram said after inaugurating the academy on Saturday.

The TNTA will appoint a certified coach in Madurai soon, Mr. Karthi said, informing that a National-ranking tennis tournament will be held in Tiruchi later this year.

The Chairman and Managing Director of MARG Limited, G. R. K. Reddy, felt that the initiative will be of immense help to the youth of Tiruchi district.

The TNTA’s Chief Executive Officer, Hiten Joshi said that those above the age of seven can participate in the training programme. “Our main focus will be on those in the age group of 7-12 years. The monthly fee will be Rs. 400 for those who undergo coaching for three days a week and Rs. 700 for six days a week,” he added.

TDTA president K. Neethi, Secretary J. Rabinder and Union Club president K. Pari were present on the occasion.
