The Tiruchi Arivalar Peravai urged the Centre to accord priority to the development of rural economy. Though various policies and programmes implemented by the Centre aimed at the above objective, thrust should be given to this endeavour, a resolution adopted at a meeting of the Tiruchi Arivalar Peravai to discuss the Union Budget held at Sri Sivananda Balalaya in the city recently, said.

Another resolution pointed out that the infrastructure for agricultural activities should be strengthened with focus on farm-based industries.

R. Murugan, chartered accountant, spoke on ‘where the Union Budget is heading towards'. He said after independence good schemes were implemented by the government in the first two Five Year Plans.

The schemes could not be implemented in the third Five Year Plan due to the Chinese aggression and the famine. Despite odds, the country is progressing in the right direction. G. Ranganathan, president of the Peravai, presided.
