“Anti-people activities must end”

Taking advantage of the ruling AIADMK's weakness, the NDA regime in the Centre was trampling on the State's powers and AIADMK partymen were bent only on protecting their posts, alleged State Secretary of the Communist Party of India R. Mutharasan here on Monday.

Speaking to the media during his party's propaganda movement tour of the State to highlight a charter of demands including preservation of the people's unity in the face of caste and religious divisions, total prohibition and constitution of the Cauvery Management Board, Mr. Mutharasan noted that instead of addressing the issues that led to the Kadiramangalam stand off between the officialdom and the people, the State Government was attempting to silence the people using police force that was against the democratic norms.

“Such anti-people activities must end”, he said. “If the police did not withdraw from the village before the end of the week, then various Opposition parties and people's organisations have planned to enter Kadiramangalam and express our support to the suffering people, which would only aggravate the situation,” he warned. He rued that people had to resort to agitations against various issues that impact them including prohibition, illegal sand mining, mineral exploration, drought assistance and drinking water crisis. The State Government must understand the feelings of the people and act accordingly, he added.
