Idling boys and girls were enrolled as students of a government school

For the students of teachers of Sri Ranganatha Corporation Middle School, Srirangam, who have participated in various programmes, the enrolment awareness rally held recently was different as well as satisfying.

The rally was to enrol young boys and girls who had crossed five years of age in the local schools. The campaign was conducted in association with the E.V.R. Magalir Manram.

The students and teachers of the school, accompanied by the members of the Magalir Manram, marched through the nearby areas, including slums. They made door to door enquiry on the presence of youngsters who were not attending schools. The boys and girls found idling their time without going to schools were enrolled as students of Sri Ranganatha Corporation Middle School with the consent of the parents. Slates and notebooks were distributed to them instantly. To convince the parents, they distributed pamphlets brought out by the Manram explaining the importance of literacy and the facilities available in the school like the infrastructure, computer lab, communication skill training through British Council, free noon meal, uniforms, books and notebooks, etc.

The teachers on their part explained the steps taken by the government for the elimination of child labour menace, to implement compulsory education for all to the parents and others. M. Rajendran, headmaster of the school, led the rally which was flagged-off by the office-bearers of the EVR Magalir Manram.
