Case booked against K.N. Nehru, 200 others

The police on Friday registered a case against the former Minister and DMK candidate for Tiruchi West constituency K.N. Nehru and 200 others on the charge of violating the model code of conduct during the garlanding of statues in the city.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) of Chinthamani, they were booked under section 143 (unlawful assembly) and 188 (disobedience to public order) of the IPC. The DMK men, including Mr. Nehru and Mahesh Poyyamozhi, party candidate for Tiruverumbur constituency, had taken out a rally to garland the statues of various leaders including C.N. Annadurai, K. Kamaraj, and Periyar in the city before formally launching the election campaign.
