A bullock cart procession was taken out to create awareness on ethno-veterinary medicine and integrated livestock and fish farming here on Thursday.
The procession organised by the Thanjavur Veterinary University Training and Research Centre, saw the participation of farmers from villages around the town. Collector M. S. Shanmugham, flagged off the rally from the grounds near Kundavai Nachiyar Government Arts College for Women. The carts that were decorated with sugarcane, went up to Ramanathan Hospital Junction and returned to the grounds.
The Collector, who advocated the use of ethno-veterinary medicine, said that it is more suitable for cattle as involves natural cure. This branch of medicine will help animals become disease- resistant. He urged farmers to opt for ethno-veterinary medicine as it will improve the health of cattle.
N. Punniyamurthy, Head and Professor of Veterinary University Training and Research Centre, Sivaji, Joint Registrar of Co-operatives, participated in the function.
