Thaipoosam was celebrated in major temples in the district on Thursday. Processional idols were taken out marking the religious significance of the festival.

The procession idol of Sri Amman at Vekkaliamman Temple in Tiruchi was taken out in a procession in the morning. The idol was brought to the temple car at about 9 a.m. and after religious rituals, devotees pulled the car all through the streets around the temple.

At Viralimalai, a large number of devotees offered worship to Lord Subramania and pulled the temple car in the morning.

Gift from Srirangam

The processional idol of Sri Samayapuram Mariamman was taken by glass palanquin from the temple and reached North Cauvery (Coleroon) via Nochiyam. The holy gift from Srirngam Sri Ranganathaswami Temple was received at night.
