Credit facilitation, awareness and health camps would be conducted in all eight panchayat unions of Karur district for the benefit of the differently-abled, Collector J. Uma Maheswari said here recently.
Addressing participants at the first camp for Karur union, she said that the camps were being conducted under the auspices of the National Disabled Development Corporation.
So far 200 applications have been received.
Detailing the eligibilities for credit, she said that the applicants should be in the 18 to 60 age group and suffering from at least 40 per cent disability. The loan amount could vary between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 50,000 depending on the need, eligibility and viability, she added.
For those in the rural areas, the respective primary agricultural cooperative societies would sanction the loan facility.
The Collector said that during the last year, a total of 185 differently-abled persons applied for credit and loan facilities during the weekly grievance day meetings.
Of them, 35 applicants were sanctioned Rs. 15.31 lakh through the corporation, while 102 applications were under active consideration. Unfortunately 45 applications have been rejected for various reasons.
The credit facilitation, awareness and health camps that were conducted last year were of great use to the differently-abled and they had been able to get national disability identity cards, monthly financial assistance, and the purpose of the camps was to exclusively serve the differently-abled and in an easy and hassle-free manner, she added.
