Laser lights, large stage properties, UV light performances and ample display of coordination marked the finale of Campofez’12, one of the oldest inter-school cultural fests in the city.

Eight teams that had qualified for the final round in the folk and western dance events staged performances that were not only sound in technique, but also in the seamless integration of technology. While the folk dances possessed the stage in their drumbeat fervour and ethnic costumes, the western pieces were all about precision in movement, unusual song mixing and creative use of props and technology. The dance events marked the end of a two-day fest that drew participation from 21 city schools and introduced French and Hindi as contesting languages in a range of events.

The two-day fest that ended on September 1, included 26 events like cartooning, spell bee, elocution in French, doha recitation in Hindi, group and solo events in music and dance, creative writing, vegetable carving, quiz and wealth from waste (junk art). Apart from the overall cup, the students vied against each other for the titles - Mr. and Ms. Campofez’12. The chief guest for the day was playback singer and dubbing artiste S.N. Surendar, who entertained the audience with his impromptu singing. “A number of popular artistes are from Tiruchi and I hope at least five of the participants who went on stage today would make it big someday,” he said. He also released the first copy of the school magazine, Campion’11 and distributed prizes.

While R.S.K. Higher Secondary School earned the first place and cash prize of Rs.3,000 in the folk dance category, Campion Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School won the western dance event and Rs.3000 cash prize. Sai Rathna and P. Aparna from R.S.K. Higher Secondary School were crowned Mr. and Ms. Campofez’12 respectively and given cash prizes of Rs.2000 each. While R.S.K. wound up overall runners-up with 38 points, Campion aced this year’s event with 79 points and was awarded the overall championship.
