The NSS volunteers of the Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University at Kumulur, near here, took out a rally in Peruvalapoor village recently to create awareness on the ill-effects of using plastic bags and other articles. The using of plastic bags led to health hazards, they told the villagers.

Led by Rani, leader of the local women self-help group, the NSS volunteers marched through the streets, when they also created awareness on keeping the environment neat and tidy.

The rally was part of the week long special camp organised by the NSS unit in the village.

In the same evening, women and children welfare meeting was organised and it was presided by P. Balasubramaniam, Associate Professor of the college.

S. Porpavai, also Associate Professor, in her address urged the village women to take care of their health by having natural nutritional food like greens and vegetables.
