The city’s prime commercial spots have been brought under closer watch with the installation of 40 surveillance cameras at vantage points. The advanced cameras have been fixed at a cost of Rs.40 lakh with assistance by a private firm.

A maximum of 27 cameras have been installed in the stretch from Karur Bypass Road to Chathram Bus Stand. Seven cameras have been installed at Main Guard Gate while three cameras each have been fixed along Big Bazaar Street and Fort Station Road.

The cameras have been installed as a crime prevention measure; streamline traffic movements and keep a close watch on suspects. The cameras would function round the clock and are connected to the police outpost at the Chathram Bus Stand.

Four monitors have been installed inside the outpost to view movements and activities taking place at the commercial spots from the video footages generated by the cameras.

An UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) has been installed to ensure continued power supply to the monitoring system in case of power failure. In addition to cameras, public address system has been installed at Anna Statue, Hotel Raghunath Junction, Chathram Bus Stand, Main Guard Gate and Singarathope.

Commissioner of Police Sanjay Mathur commissioned the surveillance cameras and the public address system at Chathram Bus Stand police outpost in the presence of senior city police officers, a press release said.
