Anti-ragging committees, comprising students and faculty representatives, should be formed in all colleges to check ragging in the institutions, District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan has said.

Speaking at a consultative meeting to discuss measures to check ragging in colleges here on Tuesday, Ms.Muralidharan said complaints about ragging could be lodged by dialling the national toll free number 1800-180-5522 or at the website www.antiragging.in

At the district level, complaints can be lodged over phone by dialling 0431-2331051 in the urban areas or 0431-2333613 in rural areas. This information should be prominently displayed at all institutions for the benefit of students.

Similarly, the toll-free number and the website address for lodging complaints should be printed on the rear side of the identity cards issued to students.

Institutions should have separate hostels for first year girls and boys. Undertakings against ragging should be obtained from students and their parents. Awareness programmes against ragging should also be organised through voluntary organisations, she said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) R.Jayanthi and representatives of various colleges and representatives of senior students attended the meeting, an official release said.
