A team of NCC cadets of D.G. Vaishnav College, Chennai, who set out on a motorcycle expedition from Chennai recently creating awareness of evils of female infanticide and female foeticide arrived here on Sunday.

Comprising 22 cadets from 1 TN Armoured Squadron NCC, a Junior Commissioned Officer and two Permanent Instructional Staff, the team headed by Capt. S. Santhosh Baboo will leave for Thanjavur on Monday.

Flagged off by Minister for Health V.S. Vijay on February 12, the 16-day expedition is jointly organised by the 1 TN Armoured Squadron NCC unit of the College and the State Appropriate Authority (PC-PNDT Act 1994), Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services, Government of Tamil Nadu.

The team had covered various places, including Vellore, Vaniyambadi, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tiruchengode, Coimbatore, Palani, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram and Pudukottai before arriving Tiruchi.

The team will also cover places including Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Puducherry and Villupuram before culminating at Chennai on February 27.

Pamphlets

The cadets have been distributing pamphlets to the public and organising skits en-route to create awareness among people on evils of female infanticide and female foeticide, said Mr. Santhosh Baboo.
