The Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) has been organising international buyer-seller meets to help small powerloom manufacturers market their products and promote exports, its chairman Vishwanath R. Agarwal said.

The council, set up by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, had organised international buyer-seller meets in Colombo, Vietnam, and Maharashtra in 2013-14 financial year.

The three global events alone generated business estimated at Rs. 700 crore, Mr. Vishwanath said. He was speaking at the “Texpo – 2014”, a buyer-seller meet and powerloom products mela here on Tuesday.

The PDEXCIL will organise a three-day international buyer-seller meet in Ahmedabad starting from October 14. Nearly 100 buyers and 150 exhibitors were expected to take part in the event which is likely to generate business estimated at Rs. 500 crore, he said.

Such programmes were organised aimed at helping small powerloom manufacturers who found it difficult to market their mosaic of products directly to buyers.

The buyer-seller meet would leave no scope for middlemen as it would enable manufacturers to directly sell their products to buyers, he said.

The council had been consistently making efforts to develop the powerloom industry, he said and added that many schemes had been sanctioned by the Union Textiles and Commerce Ministries for the development of this sector.

Collector Jayashree Muralidharan inaugurated the five-day “Texpo-2014” at the Indian Medical Association hall in which 24 exhibitors displayed their products.
