Burst crackers with caution: Collector

The District Collector M.S.Shanmugham has appealed to people of the district to take precautions while bursting crackers during Deepavali festival on November 5.

In a press release issued here on Tuesday, the Collector said these precautions are necessary to make Deepavali noise pollution free and accident free.

As per the orders of the Supreme Court, crackers producing noise should not be burst between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Crackers which bear the Supreme Court instructions and noise pollution levels alone should be purchased. Children should not be allowed to burst crackers without adult supervision.

Cotton clothes should be worn while bursting crackers. Long lighting sticks should be used. Rockets should not be fired in places where there are huts. Crackers should be burst in open grounds.

In case of emergencies, people can call police control room 100, fire service 101, Ambulance services on 105, 231221, 245025,24055.

They can also call the following police control rooms: Thanjavur 277174, Papanasam 222450, Vallam 277224, Thiruvaiyaru 272224, Kumbakonam 2433100, 2430702 and Pattukottai 252100.

Tiruvarur

Licences have been given to 146 retail crackers shops in the district for selling crackers for Deepavali festival said M.Chandrasekaran, Collector, in a press release issued here on Wednesday. Crackers should not be sold without proper licence and if anyone is found selling crackers without licence stern action will be taken against them, the Collector said.

The shops should not store any other goods except crackers. Those below 18 years of age and those with the habit of consuming alcohol should not be employed in shops. The cracker packets should bear the address of their manufacturers. Emergency exits should be kept ready and remain open. Buckets with water and sand should be kept ready. Crackers that produce 125 decibels (A1 crackers) and 145 decibel (C crackers) alone should be sold. The Collector appealed to the traders to help in celebrating a noise pollution free Deepavali.

Perambalur

S.Palanisamy, Collector (in-charge), on Wednesday, appealed to the people of Perambalur district to celebrate Deepavali in a safe and pollution-free manner. He asked the people to avoid bursting crackers between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. as per the order of the apex court.
