Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has been providing links to universities with National Knowledge Node (NKN), a site specially meant for education, sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to ensure that universities access all information in the field of education, said J.V. Raja Reddy, General Manager, BSNL, Thanjavur, here on Tuesday.
Inaugurating a national-level technical seminar at Periyar Maniammai University (PMU), Mr. Raja Reddy said the programme costs Rs. 2 crore and the duration is 10 years. Universities that want access to NKN should pay Rs.45 lakh. The HRD Ministry is providing Rs.1.2 crore and the remaining Rs.35 lakh will be borne by the BSNL. “ In Thanjavur, three universities - PMU, SASTRA University and the Central University of Tamil Nadu in Tiruvarur - have applied for it. The BSNL has provided the link to PMU and SASTRA University, while the Central University will get the same soon," Mr. Raja Reddy said.
R.Kandaswamy, Dean, Academic, PMU, said people are now living in an era of electronics. There is a wide range of electronic devices and applications which make our lives easier and enjoyable .
N. Ramachandran, Vice-Chancellor, PMU, appealed to the engineering students to contribute to the development of technology. “You should make this world a better place to live by your constant research,” he said.
