BSNL launches 3G mobile services in Thanjavur

Bharath Sanchar Nigam Ltd launched 3G mobile services for Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts here on Wednesday. Launching the services Raja Reddy, General Manager, Telecom, BSNL, Thanjavur district said that one can get the high speed internet service, videocon, television in the 3G services enabled cellular phones. He demonstrated the services to presspersons by talking to Shanmugha Sundaram, Pirncipal General Manager at Chennai trough videoconferencing.

He also showed the IPL cricket match between Chennai and Bangalore live on the handset.

Some of the television channels were also shown. Seventeen sites were commissioned in Thanjavur and six sites in Tiruvarur.

Ten more sites will be added in Thanjavur and two more in Tiruvarur. Mr. Raja Reddy said that 3G services were launched by the Union IT Minister, Raja, at Coimbatore in January. On Wednesday, services were launched in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Sivaganga districts. For mobile broad band on 3G service, USB type data card can be used. Cost of USB data card is Rs.4,343.

Free usage of 12GB is available for first 60 days. Down load speed will be 3.6 Mbps. Top up cards can be used. Different types of DATA plans are available.

For mobile TV, GRPS is to be activated. Afterwards SMS “MY3GTV” to 55447 should be sent. After reply mobile TV channels can be activated. At present 45 TV channels are available. Tariff is Rs.150 per month for all channels, Rs.50 per month for one channel and Rs.10 per day for one channel. To get 3G services, existing 2G prepaid subscribers has to send SMS ‘M3G120' to 53733.After getting reply, SMS ‘M3G120Y' to 53733 has to be sent for confirmation. Then the existing prepaid 2G customer will be converted into prepaid 3G general 120 plan.

The GM distributed 3G SIMs to first customer Dr. S. Singaravelu, Dr. Bhaskaran and others at the meeting. Irudayaraj, DGM participated.
