Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Wednesday offered prayers at Rockfort Thayumanaswamy Temple and Sri Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangam.

Senior priests and temple authorities, led by Joint Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Jayaraman, accorded him a traditional welcome in front of the Srirangam temple. Mr. Purohit spent about half an hour at the temple.

Earlier, Mr. Purohit visited Sri Thayumana Swami temple, popularly known as Ucchi Pillaiyar temple. He briskly climbed to the top of Rockfort to offer prayers at the temple. He also enjoyed the panoramic view of Tiruchi from atop the hillock.

The temple authorities explained the historical aspects of the shrine.
