Plea for special concession

Members of the district wing of Tamil Nadu Differently-abled Welfare and Protection Association staged a demonstration in front of the Collector’s office here on Friday, urging the State government to implement the special concession for persons with disabilities.

They raised slogans urging the implementation of the Government Order on the sanction of relief to persons with 40 per cent of disability. “Although the G.O. has been issued, it has not been properly implemented,” they said.

Daytime train sought

: The Pudukottai District Railway Users’ Association has urged the Southern Railway to introduce a daytime train service from Pudukottai to Tiruchendur via Manamadurai, Virudhunagar and Tuticorin. A resolution adopted at its meeting convened here on Friday wanted the Virudhunagar – Manamadurai – Tiruchi passenger train to be extended to Chingelput.

The meeting, through another resolution, wanted the work on conversion of metre gauge into broad gauge on the Aranthangi – Karaikudi section to be expedited. R. Sivakumar, president of the Association, said the meeting also wanted the work on the proposed Thanjavur – Madurai section be taken up via Gandarvakottai and Pudukottai. S. Chandrasekaran, advisor, M. Mohanraj, coordinator, and Ibrahim Babu, secretary, spoke.
