Transition suiting the job-world would warrant getting over the complacency associated with the carefree life of college days. Now is the time to brace up for the challenge, said Vice-Chancellor of Gandhigram Rural University S.M. Ramasamy here on Sunday.
The transition can begin with imbibing a high sense of self-esteem and self-confidence derived from the humanism taught by teachers and the institution that gains lofty standing on the society with generations of sacrifice. Students need to step into the society with an urge to achieve banking on traits of honesty and hard work, and make their lives meaningful and useful to the society, Dr. Ramasamy emphasised delivering the Graduation Day address at the Urumu Dhanalakshmi College here.
India's advancements on the fronts of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Geotechnology bode well for its quicker march to attain the status of an economic superpower.
The student community will be at the helm of transforming knowledge into wealth. By virtue of its higher human resource in a productive age, India stands a higher chance than China to progress well, Dr. Ramasamy said.
The Vice-Chancellor conferred undergraduate, postgraduate and M.Phil degrees on 598 of the 710 students in the presence of Principal K. Sekar and President of College Council Kalki Varadarajulu. Rest of the students received their degrees in absentia.
Presenting the Graduation Day report, UDC's Director of Physical Education N.S. Sivakumar said the college students secured 22 university ranks in various departments. Two students R. Suresh Kumar and J. Jeevan represented India in the common wealth Power Lifting Championship in which nearly 45 countries participated and brought glory to India by winning gold medals in the respective categories.
For the fourth time in succession, the men body building team secured Bharathidasan University inter collegiate championship trophy, Prof. Sivakumar said, and also listed the achievements by NCC and NSS students.
