An anonymous letter threatening that bombs would go off at the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital here before November 30 prompted the police to conduct anti-sabotage checks on the hospital premises on Wednesday.
Police sources said the letter written in Tamil was sent to the hospital authorities threatening that bombs would go off in five places in the hospital. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad conducted checks for over two hours. However, the team could not locate any explosive substances.
Another handwritten threat letter in Tamil was sent to the R.R. Sabha here on Tuesday night threatening that bombs planted in it would go off the next day. The letter was sent to the Sabha secretary asking him to vacate a tailor shop in the complex which charged high rates for stitching dress materials. A separate threat letter in Tamil was sent to the owner of the tailor shop.
On a complaint from the Sabha secretary N. Sekar, a team from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad carried out checks in the late hours.
However, they could not detect any explosive substances in the Sabha complex.
