Six persons, including the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, filed their nominations for the Srirangam by-election, here on Saturday.
M. Subramaniam, the BJP candidate fielded on behalf of the National Democratic Alliance, filed his nomination papers with the Revenue Divisional Officer and Returning Officer V.Manoharan at his office at Cholan Nagar. Mr.Subramaniam is State vice -resident of the BJP and an educationist.
He was accompanied by Tamilisai Soundararajan, State BJP president, and local office bearers of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam. In his affidavit, he had declared immovable assets worth Rs.18.41 lakhs on his name and Rs.39.97 lakhs on his spouse name. He had declared immovable properties worth Rs.9.50 crore and Rs.20.36 crore on his spouse name at current market price. He had liabilities to the extent of Rs.1.68 crore.
Speaking to reporters after the filing of nominations, Ms. Soundararajan called upon the electorate of Srirangam to vote against corruption and in support of development. She expressed confidence that the voters of Srirangam would usher in a big change
Five other candidates also filed their nominations on Saturday. B.Hemanathan of Janata Dal United, R.James Paul, M.Periyasamy, S.Pandian and M.Manmathan, Independents, filed their nominations.
