Recording of bio-metric data of people for National Population Registry is currently underway in the district in a phased manner and special camps are currently being held in some villages in Manapparai and Tiruverumbur taluks, said Collector Jayashree Muralidharan.
The exercise is underway at Pannapatti, Poigaipatti, Kannivadugampatti, Mugavanur, Chettiyapatti and Thirunellipatti in Manapparai taluk and at Krishnasamudiram, Navalpattu, Pazhanganankudi, Pathalapettai and Asoor in Tiruverumbur taluk. Special camps were functioning in the places to record the bio metric data of residents including their finger prints, iris and photos.
Appealing to all residents to get their data recorded without fail, Ms.Muralidharan urged them to produce their ration cards without fail while appearing at the camps. All members of the family should have their data recorded, though it is not necessary that all of them should appear at the same time. Although they can appear at their convenience at the camps, the family members should produce their ration cards.
Families which do not have ration cards can produce their bank account passbooks, passport, PAN card or electors photo identity cards as proof of identity.
The State government, Ms.Muralidharan said, was planning to issue ‘smart family cards’ when the current ration cards are due for renewals based on bio-metric data recorded now. It would not be possible to renew the cards of families which fail to register their details. Hence it was essential that all residents get their bio metric data recorded.
The data recorded now would also be the basis for all welfare schemes of the government in future, she said.
