Biometric data camps extended

March 17, 2013 01:19 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 02:42 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

The Tiruchirapalli City Corporation has announced that the process of recording the biometric data of people for the issue of national identity cards under the National Population Register programme has been extended till the end of this month.

Only last week, the Corporation had announced that the first round of the special camps for recording the bio metric data of residents has ended even though only 67 per cent of the city residents were covered.

The exercise, which began on October 15, made slow progress. Of the targeted above-five population of 7,92,253 in the city, only 5,32,552 people were covered in the first round, leaving more than two-and-a-half lakh persons uncovered. The biometric data had been recorded by a private agency with the corporation acting as the facilitator in conducting the camps. Corporation Commissioner V.P. Thandapani had even distributed certificates to field staff who carried out the exercise and announced that the second round of the camps would be held in April or May.

However, the district administration, after a recent review, had ordered the extension of the exercise in view of the rather low coverage in the urban centre, sources said. Accordingly, city residents who had not had their biometric data recorded could do so at the following places specified for each ward from March 18 to 31:

Srirangam Zone: Wards 1 to 6 - Srirangam Zonal Office; wards 8 to 13 and 16 to 18 - Sattalbai Corporation Maternity Home, West Boulevard Road.

Residents attending the camp are required to furnish the acknowledgement slips issued during the enumeration for the National Population Register in 2010, apart from their family cards, driving licence, passports, and PAN cards.

For clarifications, residents can contact the corporation officials at the respective zones: Srirangam (ph: 2436300/7639511000); Ariyamangalam (ph: 2462616/7639522000); Golden Rock (ph: 2462616/7639533000) and K. Abishekapuram (ph: 24771681/7639544000).

Residents who were not covered under the National Population Register enumeration and those who have migrated to the city recently are required to fill in and submit the Know Your Residents forms at camp centres. These residents would be covered under the second round of the data recording exercise.
