Educational Institutions should measure their standards through the quality of education and teaching they provide to the students and not by the money they bring to students, said Muthu Kumar Thanu, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE Ltd.), here on Friday.

Delivering the keynote address at the distribution of offer letters to the 30{+t}{+h}batch of MBA students (2013-15) of Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), Mr. Thanu said salary was only incidental. The quality imparted by the educational institutions such as BIM would bring money to them.

He urged the students to take risks and make a difference in the workplace by their performance. “It is not enough if you become successful corporate managers, you should become good family man and good Indian citizen,” he said.

He distributed offer letters to the 2013-15 batch of MBA students. S. Karuthiah Pandian, Director of BIM, said that classroom teaching was one aspect of life. Real learning takes place in the outside world. Textbooks teach only basics. He advised MBA students to refrain from using jargons. They should articulate with absolute clarity.

K. Abhishek, vice-chairman of placement, said that 120 students, and 36 companies participated in the process and 130 offers were made.

There were five international placements. The average cost to company for the offers was Rs. 9.1 lakh per annum. The maximum was Rs. 14 lakh and the minimum Rs. 6 lakh.

“Eighty four students (70) per cent of the batch were placed on November 21, 2014, day one of placement process,” said Mr. Abhishek.

S. Sundar, chairman of placement, spoke.
