The Community Centre Ladies Club of BHEL, Tiruchi, celebrated International Women’s Day by honouring achievers recently. While extolling the capabilities of women in many fields, speakers called for empowering them in large numbers.

A.V. Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, said educational empowerment will emancipate women, enabling them to take right decisions while K. Sekar, principal, Chidambaram Pillai College for Women, Mannachanallur, placed the onus on women for inculcating the right traits to the upcoming generation of girls at a young age. Women should learn how to solve problems at home and workplace to avoid stress.

R. Madhavi, professor, Department of Fine Arts, Tamil University, Thanjavur, joined Rajam Krishnan, patron, BHEL Community Centre Ladies Club, and Sadhna Ramesh, club president, in distributing prizes to the winners of competitions. Practising freedom at home will help women extend the spirit to workplace, Prof. Madhavi said.

The celebration was meant to recognise achievements by women on social, political and economic front, S. Ramesh, General Manager, Advanced Technological Products, and president, community centre, said.
