BHEL evolves plans to reduce supply time

Customer meet on spares and modernisation of boilers

Specific action plans were being drawn up by the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited to reduce supply time and meet customer expectations, said R.Rajamanohar, Executive Director, BHEL, Tiruchi, here on Tuesday.

As a pilot scheme, two power stations have been linked to all the units of BHEL through an on-line monitoring system to assess their performance which would be helpful in assessing various components and improve their operational efficiency, he said inaugurating a customer meet on spares and renovation and modernisation of boilers and auxiliaries organised by Spares and Services Business Group (SSBG) and Spares and Renovation and Modernisation Business Group (SRBG) of BHEL, here.

V. Ravindran, General Manager-in-charge, SSBG, Heavy Equipment Repair Plant, Varanasi and Renovation, Modernisation and Spares Group, BHEL, said the company was fully equipped to meet emission standards and provide consultancy services for life assessment and retrofit of power plants.

Ambar Roy, General Manager, West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL), said that the meet would give detailed insights into developments in renovation and modernisation of older units of thermal power stations.

He called for efforts to reduce energy consumption and emissions in running power plants and expressed hope that the event would serve as a platform for sharing the experience and finding solutions for all issues related to boiler spares and auxiliaries.

Sanjay Kumar Garai, Associate Vice-President, Jindal Power Limited, called for focus on ways to minimise stress on boilers and running cost due to fluctuating load and varying characteristics of the fuel source.

Presentations were made on the business scenario, products and services, boiler auxiliaries, fluidised bed combustion and heat recovery steam generator technology, valves, control and instrumentation, tube failures and remedies, digitalization efforts for remote monitoring and diagnostic system, seamless steel tubes and various improvement initiatives in terms of spares and retrofits during the meet, a press release said.
