A six member team of engineers from the Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore, arrived in the city and commenced technical checks on the electronic voting machines (EVMs) to be used for the Assembly elections.

As many as 6,630 EVMs are to be used for the elections in the nine Assembly segments in the district. The process of checking the machines was expected to go on for a week.

The team led by Raghavan, senior engineer, BEL, commenced the process on Saturday in the presence of district officials and representatives of political parties. Political parties have been told that they could witness the verification process any time during the next few days.

According to district officials, BEL engineers would certify the EVMs to be ready for use after a thorough check of the functioning of the control and ballot units. P.Manimaran, district collector (in-charge) and other officials were present.
