Uday Kotak, Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Kotak Mahindra Bank, on Sunday called upon entrepreneurs to become complete professionals in order to build towering institutions.

Delivering the convocation address after presenting medals to meritorious students at the Indian Institute of Management Tiruchi (IIM-T) here, Mr. Kotak said he was a firm believer in pure professional entrepreneurship. Everyone has entrepreneurship spirit; it has to be channelized properly to excel in action.

Noting the contributions of Steven Paul Jobs, cofounder of Apple Inc, Mr. Kotak said his untiring, innovative, dedicated and committed efforts made him build Apple Inc. His products transcended boundaries and have been received well by people across the globe. The Apple Watch, one of his products, has been seen as a potential threat to the traditional watch industry. The company was possible because of Jobs foresight and thinking. Though Mr. Jobs is no more, the institution he has built will serve the people for a long to come, he said. Such kind of professional entrepreneurship is needed to build great institutions that will serve humankind for centuries. Institutions are greater than the individuals, he said.

Stressing on the importance of nurturing soft skills, Mr. Kotak said opportunities would not knock on the door with prior announcement. The aspirants had to sense it, feel it, and grab it. Each and every individual should assess themselves, and they must work to address their areas of weakness to achieve their goal.

While pointing out the importance of qualitative education, he said only education could take the country forward. The country need quality institutions to produce knowledgeable society.

M.Damodaran, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM-T, presented diplomas to the graduating students. Prafulla Agnihotri, Director, IIM-T presented a report on the activities of the institute.
