Young entrepreneurs should take to bakery as it offers good business prospects.

Students of hotel management institutes should adopt innovative techniques and delicious recipes for marketing breads, biscuits and other snacks, said speakers at the inaugural of a two-day seminar-cum-exhibition organised by the Jenneys Academy of Hotel Management and Tamil Nadu Bakers’ Federation, to mark the World Bakers Day on Thursday.

Royal S. Kumar, president of Tamil Nadu Bakers Association, said bakery products were much sought after by customers of different age groups and the bakery trade has been facing an acute shortage of skilled manpower.

G. Ramasamy, managing director, Sankar National Bakery, Dindigul, said various recipes were available to cater to the needs of different people at different times. For instance, the wedding cake, birthday cake and the sari cake has been gaining popularity among the people.

K. Singaravadivel, Director, Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology, said the exhibition would infuse a sense of confidence among students to understand the interesting facets of bakery industry.

He spoke on the services available at the bakery unit of his institute.

M. Pon Ilango, Director (Technical) of Jenneys Academy of Hotel Management, said that the objective of the exhibition was to motivate students to turn entrepreneurs.

The exhibition titled ‘Butterfly Park’ contained various models on yeast products and salt dough.

Bakery trade offered various avenues to cater to the needs of people in the present-day lifestyle. He said low-fat desserts and gluten-free desserts in cakes offered wider prospects for the entrepreneurs.
