In the wake of the bank robberies in Chennai recently, the city police have asked banks operating in the city to have dedicated hotline connections with the police control room to alert law enforcers and seek their assistance in case of any exigency.
This was one among the several key points driven home to bank officials during a meeting police officers had with them here a few days ago discussing security arrangements that needed to be put in place in banks.

The over an hour-long security-related coordination meeting, organised on the instruction of the State Police Headquarters, was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) S. Ramaiyan and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) S.Jayapandian.
Bank officials were advised to put in place CCTVs with latest technology in their respective branches as well as in automated teller machine (ATM) centres.
The officials were also informed that bank branches with heavy transactions could opt for paid police guards. Installation of security alarms, provision of adequate lighting with UPS facility and posting of security guards at the banks and ATM centres were other security-related measures put forth.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police, City Crime Records Bureau, K.P.S. Jayachandran explained to the officials ways to identify fake currency.
Senior police officers and officials from various banks attended the programme, a police press release here said.
