A one-and-half-year-old baby boy succumbed to burn injuries it sustained when his mother reportedly attempted self-immolation in their house at Keezhapadayachi street in Palakkarai police station limit here on Sunday.
Police gave the name of deceased infant as Y. Gokul. His parents, Yogaraj and Jesi Rani, have been admitted to the Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital with burns.
Police sources said a verbal duel that broke out between Jesi Rani and Yogaraj, a mini goods carrier driver, which took a turn for the worse with the woman setting herself ablaze. The baby which hugged the mother also sustained burns. Yogaraj who tried to rescue his wife and child sustained burn injuries.
All three were rushed to the Government Hospital where the baby succumbed. The Palakkarai Police are investigating.
