Awareness programmes marked the World AIDS Day in the city on Sunday. Marcellin Trust and District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) jointly along with around 250 people took a candle light oath to work towards creating an AIDS-free society. Cultural programmes including dance, drama and mimicry were organised.
R. Senthil Kumar, district project Manager, DAPCU advised the HIV-affected people to stay healthy by taking nutritious food. R. Selvakumar, district supervisor, DAPCU, elaborated on the government schemes to assist people affected with the disease.
The District Legal Services Authority organised an awareness programme at the court complex.
Around 80 positive people participated in the event. P. Velmurugan, District Principal and Sessions Judge, spoke.
RVS Educational Trust conducted an AIDS awareness programme at the Tiruchi railway junction.
A mime on the HIV was enacted by the students of RVS KVK School of Architecture.
Lectures explaining the various dimensions of HIV/AIDS and its prevention were delivered by the faculty members of the institution.
