The Tiruchi Division carried 3.71 crore passengers and 6.70 million tonnes of freight in the 2015-16 financial year, the Divisional Railway Manager A.K. Agarwal informed on Monday.
Addressing railway employees and officers at the 61{+s}{+t}Railway Week celebrations organised by the Division here, Mr. Agarwal said that the Tiruchi Division earned Rs. 681.47 crore through passenger, other coaching, goods and sundries in the last fiscal.
Stating that safety in train operations was the foremost priority of the railways, he said it was essential to ensure complete confidence in the minds of the travelling public that they could travel without any anxiety and fear of accident in railways.
Complimenting the railway employees for their excellent performance in the last financial year, Mr Agarwal exhorted them to maintain the highest standards of safety. The Tiruchi Division had achieved efficiency shields in Operating, Passenger Amenities and Security areas during 2015-16 fiscal, he said. Mr. Agarwal listed out the important events that had taken place in the Division besides highlighting the measures initiated in the passenger amenities front. The function was marked by distribution of awards to officers and staff of the division for their meritorious service.
