Auto driver shot dead

Dispute over using a pathway was said to be the cause behind the incident

In a chilling incident, an auto driver was shot dead at Manakollai village near here on Tuesday night.

The police have secured P. Mahamuni (65) on the charge of killing the auto driver A. Murugesan (50). Dispute over using a pathway was said to be the cause behind the killing. The victim and the accused were residents of Manakollai village. Police sources said a wordy quarrel broke out between the two, who were said to be in an inebriated condition, over using the pathway.

In a fit of rage Mahamuni shot Murugesan using a country made gun. Murugesan, who was shot in the chest, died on the way to the hospital.

The Superintendent of Police, Lalitha Lakshmi, visited the scene of crime and conducted enquiries. The Kollidam police have registered a case.
