Tiruchi district has registered a marginal rise of 0.62 percentage points in the overall performance in SSLC from 90.52 to 91.14 percent this year.

For the first time, students of four boards: State, Anglo-Indian, Matriculation, and OSLC, appeared for the examinations under the pattern of Samacheer Kalvi (equitable education). In all, 39,897 students, including 20,181 girls appeared for the examination, and 36,334 secured pass marks.

Girls performed better as usual with 93.61 per cent compared to 88.60 by boys. Among the educational districts, Musiri educational district registered an overall pass of 93.60 per cent, followed by Lalgudi (91.21) and Tiruchi (90.26).

Out of 356 high schools, 140 schools, including 26 government high schools secured cent per cent pass.

A good number of government schools: those at Thathiengarpet, Palakurichi, Sobanapuram, Thalaimalaipatti, Valasiramani, Valaiyur, Thuraiyur (Adi Dravida Welfare), Vellur, Senappanallur, Sirunavalur, Omandur, Kanakiiyanallur, Thinnanur, Naduvalur, Sangenthi missed out on the cent per cent distinction due to the failure of just one student.

Among government schools securing cent per cent pass, the highest number of 440 students appeared for the exam at the Government Girls' Higher Secondary School, Manachanallur.

The least performance was by Corporation High School, Sembattu. Only 10 out of 37 students could secure pass marks.

Facilitating factor

Several students scored innumerable centums in Science and Social Sciences.

The 25 per cent mark allotted for science practicals under the new system was a facilitating factor, according to education department officials.

Citing a supreme court order, Chief Educational Officer K.Selvakumar said all schools must unfailingly admit their own students who have secured pass marks into higher secondary irrespective of their scores.

The department will closely monitor compliance by the schools, he said.

Applications for re-totalling of marks will be issued from June 5 to 7. All headmasters have been instructed to issue mark statements on June 21 to students after completing the process of online registration of their SSLC qualification with the district employment office, the CEO said.
