The Tamil Nadu Assembly Committee on Public Sector Undertakings on Monday directed officials to keep the government hospital here and its environs clean.
Members of the committee, who inspected the hospital, called for improvements to drinking water and sanitation facilities for visitors.
Toilets should be provided and stagnant water removed from the area by utilising the services of conservancy workers from Ariyalur municipality.
The members instructed the officials to create more waiting space for visitors near the paediatric intensive care unit.
The team, led by P. G. Narayanan, chairman, visited Ariyalur Cement Works of Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation, where 1,500 tonnes of cement is produced every day.
The visitors were apprised of the working of the unit, which has produced 2368.2 tonnes of cement during 2012-13 till September and registered a profit of Rs. 4.85 crore.
The committee on public sector undertakings, according to a press release, also inspected the bus stand spread over an area of 5.5 acres.
It asked the civic officials to keep the public utility, from where 143 government buses and 69 private buses are operated daily, neat and clean.
