Puja performed for fitting the basement of the car

Fitting of basement for the new car being constructed for the Big Temple here was held on Thursday.

Pujas were performed before fitting the logs of wood and wooden sculptures that will form the base of the car before Rama temple on West Main Street. Carving of wooden sculptures for the new car is going on at Konkaneswarar temple on West Main Street.

M. Rangasamy, MLA; and K.Thangamuthu, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board; Babaji Rajah Bhonsle, Senior Prince and Hereditary trustee of Palace Devasthanam, took part in the pujas.

Arumbavur Varadarajan, craftsman, said that base structure (logs of wood) with sculptures of Peruvudayar (Brigadisvara), Periyanayagi, Vinayagar, Murugan, Dwarabalagar, Boomadevi, Kalyanasundaramurthy, Agasthiyar, Nayanmars, and Sivarathiri puranam were fitted on Thursday. Kuthirai (horses) and Yaazhi were fitted. The car will have 231 wooden sculptures and 160 bells.

Work which commenced in September is expected to be completed by May 2014. The State government has allotted Rs. 50 lakh for the construction of the new car.
