Academicians and people from various walks of life led by Justice S.Rajeswaran, Judge, High Court of Madras, felicitated V.Rengarajan, former vice principal, St. Joseph’s College, at a function held in the city on Saturday.
Justice Rajeswaran recalled the yeoman service rendered by Prof.Rengarajan in nurturing the student community. All the present-day teachers should emulate his qualities.
Underlining the importance of leading a contended life, Justice Rajeswaran regretted that the present generation is bereft of right values towards life . A majority of the cases pending in the courts in the country are family disputes; this was mainly due to discontentment among people.
Rev.S.John Britto, Rector, St.Joseph’s College, said that responsible teachers will always command respect from society. He said that Prof.Rengarajan has always accorded priority for handling the junior classes and had special knack in handling the juniors who needed special attention.
Rev.A.Albert Muthumalai, principal, St. Joseph’s College, said that this was the centenary year of the Botany Department of the College, in which Prof. Rengarajan served with distinction.
K.K.Somasundaram, former chief conservator of forests, L.Kannan, former Vice Chancellor, Tiruvalluvar University, Vellore, Ganesan, former Emeritus Professor, University of Caracas, Venezuela, Tirunarayanan, former professor of Sanskrit, G.Balakrishnan, former vice principal, St. Joseph’s College, who spoke on the occasion, recalled Prof.Rengarajan to be an affable teacher and a role model. With his depth of knowledge, flowery language, pleasing manners, and humane approach Prof.Rengarajan was very popular with management, faculty, and above all, the students.
In his reply to the felicitations, Prof. Rengarajan said that he was influenced by his teachers Rev.Fr.Balam and V.Krishnamoorthy . He commended St. Joseph’s College for continuing the excellent student-teacher-management relationship set up by its founding fathers.
The function was brought up in connection with the 80th birth day celebration of Prof.Rengarajan.
