The sub-station would cater to about 1.60 lakh consumers in Srirangam, Melur, Velli Thirumutham, Amma Mandapam, Thiruvanaikovil, Tollgate and Mambazhasalai.

The upgraded power sub-stations at Srirangam and Pettavaithalai in the district that were commissioned by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa via video conferencing from Chennai on Saturday would benefit about 2.20 lakh consumers.

The two 33/11KV sub-stations at Srirangam and Pettavaithalai have been upgraded into 110/11KV sub-stations at a cost of Rs.9.67 crore and Rs.4.60 crore respectively. The upgraded sub-station at Velli Thirumutham in Srirangam would meet a felt need of the town residents.

Residents in some parts of the town were facing problems due to fluctuations in voltage.

Officials of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation said the upgradation of the sub-station would help ensure voltage stability. Four additional feeders have been provided and the towers have been strengthened, they said.

The sub-station would cater to about 1.60 lakh consumers in Srirangam, Melur, Velli Thirumutham, Amma Mandapam, Thiruvanaikovil, Tollgate and Mambazhasalai.

The upgraded sub-station at Pettavaithalai would cater to about 60,000 consumers in Pettavaithalai, Kulithalai, Poyyamani, Nachalur, Chinnapanaiyur, Panickampatti, Sirugamani, Perugamani, Nangavaram, Kodiyalam and Thiruparaithurai.

During the video conference session, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan and Priyadarshini, a Srirangam resident, expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for sanctioning the upgradation of the two sub-stations, both in her Srirangam constituency.

P.Kumar, MP, R.Manoharan, M.Paranjothi, T.P.Poonatchi, R.Chandrasekar and T.Indira Gandhi, MLAs, A.Jaya, Mayor, and P.Annadurai, Chief Engineer (Distribution), TANGEDCO, Tiruchi region, were present at Srirangam.
