Nearly 700 persons took part in the district-level rounds of the tournament for the Chief Minister’s Trophy, which concluded here recently.
The two-day meet, which was organised by Tiruvarur unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) at district stadium, was inaugurated by V.Ravichandran, chairman, Tiruvarur municipality.
It featured athletics, basketball, football, hockey, kabaddi and volleyball events for men and women. “The meet evoked good response,” said S.Tamilselvan, District Sports Officer.
In athletics, the winner in each event qualified for the State-level contest to be held in Chennai, while for team events, the sportspersons for the State-level tourney were selected based on their performance at the district-level meet. At the valediction, C.Dharman, Station Manager, Tiruvarur, distributed the prizes.
