Role of communication skills underlined
Bridge course and foundation course for the benefit of freshers organised by the Department of English of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College was inaugurated at a function here on Tuesday.
N.Kalamani, professor and chair, Department of English, Bharathidasan University, in her inaugural address, said that English is a language that links many countries and states.
She also spoke on the various opportunities the language offers in different fields.
In order to gain confidence youngsters have to acquire reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
Ms.Kalamani reiterated the importance of bridge course and said English aided in developing all-round personality of students.
Kanaka Bashyam, principal, in her presidential address, motivated the students to make the best use of courses offered and said that the college offered a conducive environment to shape one’s skills.
To be employable communication skills play a pivotal role, she said and urged the students to tune themselves to the demands of job market. The bridge course is being conducted as per the norms laid down by the UGC, she said.
Usha Chandrasekaran, head, department of English of the college, and R.Vidya, assistant professor, offered felicitations.
