2,488 beneficiaries to receive it soon

The government subsidy for constructing individual household toilets has been increased to Rs. 4,700 a unit and 2,488 beneficiaries would be sanctioned the subsidy in the district soon, said Collector Darez Ahmed.

Speaking at the valediction of a mass contact programme at Sirumathur here on Wednesday, Mr.Ahmed said about 672 beneficiaries in the village were being given Rs.1,000 as monthly assistance under the social security schemes of the government.

Various development works including construction of a bridge across Namaiyur tank and drinking water schemes have been taken up in the panchayat, he said.

Adequate fertilizer stocks were available with the Ponnagaram Primary Agricultural Credit Society, which has so far advanced Rs.42 lakh as agricultural credit this year.

Mr.Ahmed distributed welfare assistance worth Rs.57.94 lakhs, including old age pension orders, widow pensions and agricultural inputs to 108 beneficiaries on the occasion.
