Two farms earn additional revenue of Rs. 11.5 lakh

Government Horticulture Farms at Aduthurai and Marunkulam in the district have exceeded their sales target during 2011-12.

The farms have been selling hybrid varieties of mango seedlings (Neelam, Bangalura, Senthura, Pangappalli, Himayudheen and Alphonsa); hybrid seedlings of sappotta-PKM one, PKM four and other varieties; hybrid seedlings of Amla , NA4, and NA7; guava seedlings L49, Allahabad sapetha, Benaras; tamarind varieties Urigam and PKM one; teak seedlings and ornamental plants.

Target for Aduthurai farm was Rs. 25 lakh and sales achieved was Rs. 33.32 lakh. The target for Marunkulam farm was Rs.42 lakh and sales of Rs. 45.19 lakh was achieved. In total, the two farms have earned additional revenue of Rs. 11.5 lakh to the government.

In appreciation of these achievements, Housing and Urban Development Minister R. Vaithilingam presented mementoes to farm managers C.Rajendran and C.Sakthivel at a function held at Orathanadu recently. Collector K.Baskaran, and M. Selvaraj, Deputy Director of Horticulture, were present, said a press release issued here by the Horticulture department on Saturday.
