Participants of ‘learn to swim' programme trained in techniques of freestyle: floating, arm action, leg movement

What better way to cool off during summer than taking a plunge into the swimming pool!

The ‘learn to swim,' programmes being organised by the Tiruchi unit of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) have attracted good patronage.

“The response has been very good and most of the participants are youngsters. Swimming is a very good exercise that helps keep fit,” said P. Kalaiselvan, District Sports Officer, Tiruchi.

The participants are being trained in techniques of freestyle: floating, arm action, leg movement among others.

“Initially, they are taught on the need to learn swimming. This knowledge would help them feel confident,” said the coach B. Sathish Kumar. He said that many young participants attending the programme were interested in taking up swimming competitively.
